reverse-engineering thru impractical use
What’s the point in aiming for
reliability and performance when engine seizure and other assorted failures are
easier to obtain? Nothing
like an engine meltdown on the open road to test the mettle of your
undergarments.
Italian scooters and small cars
are ideal candidates for this kind of abuse, partly because the parts are
cheap(ish), partly because as underpowered sacks they
need all the help they can get, and partly because an Italian motor in a
smoking mess on the side of the road just seems so apt.
But there are times when the
perfect equation becomes a little one-sided and the damn things actually work
for a period long enough to make some notes (on how to avoid that reliability
next time).
